IGF-1, also called somatomedin C, is a hormone similar in molecular structure to insulin. It plays an important role in the growth of children and has an anabolic effect on adults. It exhibits neuroprotective properties in acute ischemic stroke and other neurodegenerative cases, and restores the functioning of the immune system, reduces the levels of oxidative stress and inflammation in the body.

IGF-1 causes an increase in the cellular mass of cartilage and muscle tissue, and also stimulates the processes of regeneration of joints and ligaments, skin damage, burns. IGF-1 increases fertility and sexual activity. It promotes the development of follicles and oocytes, and is an important factor in spermatogenesis. IGF-1 is used as a geroprotector due to its effect on key metabolic processes of aging.
